11th EIM Border Skirmish Drive — Apr 21

——-

The 11th EIM Border Skirmish Drive (BSD) will be held on Saturday, April 21st. It closely follows the route used during the very first BSD back in 2008, although there are a few modifications included to make the route even better. If you like expansive views from high vistas, deep river valleys, exposed limestone bluffs, trout streams, and a nice sampling of Driftless Region sweepers, twisties, and switchbacks, this drive is for you.

The detailed route description may be found below (click on the **Read More** button from the home page). Rendezvous is at 9:00 am at Siewers Spring State Park near Decorah. Lunch will be ~11:00 am in Spring Grove, MN at the Ivy Grove Cafe. Our final stop will be ~2:00 pm at the Toppling Goliath Brewing Company near Decorah.

Remember to bring your cameras and GMRS/FRS radios.

Please let us know you’ll be joining us on this drive using any of the methods listed below (click on the **Read More** button from the home page). Addresses, links, and a link to the Route Map are also available after the jump.

Hope you can join us!

The starting point is the Trout Hatchery at Siewers Spring State Park just south of Decorah. Plan on arriving ~9:00 am to allow time for socializing, exploring the park, feeding the trout, and most importantly, checking out the world famous Decorah Eagles (the three eggs this year are forecast to hatch sometime during the first week of April). We will depart at 9:45 am.

The route heads east and north via Waukon, Dorchester, New Albin, and Eitzen, MN to our lunch stop ~11:00 am in Spring Grove, MN at Viking Memorial Park. Lunch will be at the Ivy Grove Cafe at 101 W. Main St. We will depart the restaurant at ~12:15 pm.

The route continues northeast to Caledonia, MN; then north to Houston, MN; west to Bratsburg, MN, and then south via Choice, MN to a rest stop in Mabel, MN. We then drive south into Iowa, passing through the quaker town of Hesper prior to arriving back in Decorah. We’ll take a scenic loop through the Luther College campus before heading east on IA-9 to our final destination.

Our final stop will be at the brand new Toppling Goliath Brewing Company facility southeast of Decorah, a site that opened only a few short weeks ago. We should be arriving there ~2:00 pm. For those who aren’t aware, according to aficionado sites like BeerAdvocate and RateBeer Toppling Goliath makes the *single best beer in the world* and has seven beers in the top 100. They also serve soft drinks (including Spring Grove Soda Pop) and minors are welcome on the premises.
