You may recall that we posted here on the Eastern Iowa MINIs website almost 13 months ago about the free MINI Cooper give-away contest being sponsored again by Our Iowa Magazine.
According to independent sources, it appears that the hidden key to the MINI has been located in western Iowa…
The following is a quote from a news blog originating from Carroll County, Iowa:
“Congratulations to Bruce and Shirley Thompson, of Lanesboro. They won a 2010 mini-Cooper automobile. This is a British car. Iowa Magazine’s Treasure Hunt sponsored the contest. Clues were put in papers around Iowa. The bi-monthly magazine told its readers that the key was hidden somewhere in one of the Iowa’s 99 counties. Each edition would have clues and 10 counties would be eliminated with each publication. Shirley said the contest began in March, 2009 and was down to 39 counties when she read the March 2010 clues of “You could ride right by and miss it” and “It’s a stone’s throw from water.” She told her husband she thought she knew where the key was hidden and they drove to Dickson Timber. It took only about five minutes for her to locate the key. Instructions for how to claim the grand prize were included in a packet on the bottom side of a picnic table.”
This is a wonderful magazine with breathtaking illustrations of the Iowa landscape and lifestyle. Consider a subscription if you don’t already have one — the information you need is at the Our Iowa Magazine website (http://www.ouriowamagazine.com).

Did you notice that the finders from Lanesboro have the exact same last name as the couple from Independence that won the Our Iowa Magazine MINI in 2008? Suppose they are related?
Not related! My wife and I were the first couple to find the key to a Mini Cooper in Independence Iowa Sept 2008. The recent magazine article says they will hide a 3rd key! Have fun looking!
Rick, thanks for your comment! We’re always on the lookout for your MINI as we pass through Independence. Hope you and your wife are thoroughly enjoying your MINI.
We’d love to have you join us for one of our get-togethers sometime!
